IsDB Master of Science Scholarship Programme for Least Developed Member Countries

A fully-funded two-year Master of Science scholarship run by the Islamic Development Bank (headquartered in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia) for citizens of its 20 Least Developed Member Countries, of which six are Arab: the Comoros, Djibouti, Mauritania, the Palestinian territories, Somalia and Yemen. Launched in 1998 to build science-and-technology human capital, it is tenable only for studies in science, engineering, technology or medicine/medical sciences, and the scholar must secure admission at a university in an IsDB member country ranked in the Times Higher Education top 1,000 (priority destinations with IsDB cooperation agreements include Malaysia, Morocco and Turkey) — study is therefore in-region, not in a single fixed country. The scholarship covers tuition paid directly to the university, a monthly living stipend set to match the cost of living in the country of study (no fixed figure is published), medical treatment, a thesis-preparation allowance, and a return air ticket plus installation allowance for those studying abroad. IMPORTANT ELIGIBILITY: applicants must be no older than 30 at the application deadline, hold a B.Sc. in science and technology with above-average academic standing, and — critically — be NOMINATED by a scientific, academic or research institution in their home country, with the shortlist endorsed by the office of the IsDB Governor; the programme does not accept purely individual applications. Beneficiaries sign a surety bond to return home and serve for at least twice the scholarship duration. Awards are merit-based and limited. The 2026-27 cycle closed on 31 January 2026; the next call is expected to open around December 2026.
